Join Jon Schuler to learn his tried and true Upright Casting Techniques (UCT) as utilized for Cast-In-Place (CIP) projects. Casting concrete countertops, sinks, benches, and bench tops in situ makes a lot of sense for a multitude of reasons, including:

• Casting in place allows you to create large seamless pieces that would be overly difficult to cast off-site, transport and install. 

• By casting in place you cut out a substantial amount of added time and expense by eliminating transport and installation.

• Casting a project on-site allows you to cast around existing columns or other obstructions that would require complex and fussy seams if cast off-site.

Jon will walk you through the steps required to form a countertop with drop faces, with an undermount sink, on a cabinet in our studio. Once forming is covered Jon will continue with proper concrete mix design, how to mix, place, finish, and cure. Sealing technologies, products, and application is also a key takeaway of this workshop.

Workshop Topics will include:

• Form building from an Upright Casting point of view

• Kodiak Pro QUANTUM Reactive Sealer application

• Acid washing concrete

• Use of orbital sanding techniques to achieve and finesse final finishes

• Proper methods of grinding and sanding utilizing dry diamonds
